From the geological point of view Capri is the extension of Sorrentinae peninsula. This island extends 10 square km and it is divided into two centres: Capri and Anacapri. This latter is the highest part of the territory.
About the etimology of the name “Capri” there are two hypotesis: according to the former the name derives from the fact that at a certain distance the outline of the island recalls an overturned goat, the latter traces the origin back to the presence of a large number of goats on the island. |
