The climate of the city of Salerno and the Cilento area is most typically Mediterranean with mild, rainy winters and moderately hot summers and very little rain.
The orography of the area means that the city is often affected by the winds. The currents from the south south-west clash with the natural barrier of mountains that conveys Lattari dell'Irno in the valley, back currents from the north in the valley dell'Irno funnel that acts as a funnel by converging winds over the city. The first phenomenon creates winds of a certain intensity, especially in the period between summer and autumn, the second phenomenon is common during the winter to coincide with the air raids from the Balkans.
